I got started with the series when my cousins sent me a copy. I wasn't overly impressed with the first couple of books, I started reading them when I was in 11th grade. But by the last book I really felt that Rowling's pacing and prose had improved. Plus the danger grew with the characters and became more complicated than just Slaying the Monster.
